St. Regis New York: Old School Manhattan Glam

So, what do you get when you book a room at the St. Regis New York, the brand’s flagship hotel?

For starters, you get 24-hour complimentary butler service, a Bentley driver at your disposal, and a really comfy bed on which to rest your head at night. And with its location just a few blocks from Central Park, the St. Regis New York was the ideal home base for our six-night stay in Manhattan.

Our Room: Deluxe King

We booked a superior room — the hotel’s most basic room category — but were lucky enough to be upgraded to a deluxe king, which was much more spacious and had a bigger bathroom with a separate shower and tub.

Whichever room category you choose, however, you will feel pampered. Every detail is thoughtful and luxurious, from the closet drawers to the bathroom amenities and slippers.

Daily Destination Fee

Like many hotels and resorts nowadays, the St. Regis New York charges a “daily destination fee” — but it actually includes some great benefits. At the time we stayed in September 2019, the $50 daily destination fee included:

  • $50 food and beverage credit (minibar excluded but including Astor Court, King Cole Bar, and Room Service charges);

  • $50 laundry or dry cleaning credit;

  • $25 Fodera hair salon credit;

  • High-speed internet access and unlimited long distance, local, and international calls; and

  • 2 museum tickets to the Whitney or the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met).

We took full advantage of the destination fee credits; ordering room service; getting our clothes ironed and pressed; and enjoying Red Snappers (the “original Bloody Mary”) at the King Cole Bar. We didn’t have time to make it to the Whitney art museum, but we did use our two free passes to the Met (worth $25/each). We also took advantage of the in-house Bentley service — which is available for drop-offs within 10 blocks of the hotel — to take us to the Met and to Grand Central station.

St. Regis Butler Service

Butlers are available 24 hours a day and are available for whatever you need, from finding gifts to ironing clothes, unpacking, and even waking you up — If you want, your butler will come into your room in the morning, draw the curtains and greet you with your choice of French-press coffee or tea. And don’t worry about tipping them every time they come to pick up or drop something off — the butlers at the St. Regis are paid a full salary and therefore tips are not expected.
